Who is the WHO? WHO stands for the World Health Organization? The WHO is an international agency of the United Nations dedicated to global public health. The WHO Constitution, that sets forth the general policies and principles of the WHO, states that its primary goal is “the achievement by all people of the highest possible standard of physical and mental health”. It also states that its responsibility is to “provide medical assistance in order to protect the lives and welfare of the community at large.”
WHO is responsible for monitoring and investigating all diseases and conditions that may have a global effect on human life. For example, it is responsible for determining the causes of death and for setting up death certificates. It is the coordinator for inter-governmental cooperation on health matters. It distributes funds for scientific research, forms medical newsletters, and conducts immunization programs.
WHO is not responsible for assessing the risks of vaccines or for setting up diagnostic tests to detect and treat diseases affecting humans? It has no role in the control of animals used in experiments. It is not involved in the prevention of transmittable diseases among animals. It does, however, provide guidelines for maintaining good hygiene and prevention of epidemics.
WHO is part of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Trade Organization. It is governed by a Single National Coordinating Committee. The WHO has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. From its office, it supervises all activities related to the world health organization and the implementation of policies there.
WHO is part of the United Nations system? Its mission is “to promote health, preventing disease, improving health and the maintenance of world health policy”. The WHO is made up of different departments. It has branches in all parts of the world. Its Director is the chief medical officer of the WHO. Other members are the heads of departments that are concerned with specific fields of diseases: AIDS Prevention, Community Health management, epidemiology, general medical problems, vaccines, immunology, pharmacology, physiology, sociology and political science.
WHO has its own website? It has updated Directory of List of diseases. It also has a list of news and technical events, which are published on their site. They also publish a newsletter, called “WHO News”. They also conduct immunization campaigns.
WHO’s Emergency Health Services division is responsible for the delivery of medical assistance under the emergency laws? This division exists for the betterment of the quality of the health care system and for the protection of the public against the introduction of communicable diseases. WHO has been given an emblem with a red ribbon by the government of many countries? This red ribbon is a symbol of alerting people to an outbreak of a communicable disease.
